Orcish ring mail is a type of body armor that appears in NetHack, It is made of iron, and appears as crude ring mail when unidentified.

Generation

All orcish Barbarians start the game with orcish ring mail in place of standard ring mail.[1][2]

Description

When worn, orcish ring mail grants 2 base AC and MC1.

Strategy

Orcish ring mail is as heavy as standard ring mail for one less point of AC, and orcish Barbarians should swap it for whatever armor they can find as soon as possible. For Barbarians and other roles alike, even leather armor of the same enchantment is preferable: it weighs 100 aum less, and does not interfere with spellcasting for magic-focused characters.

Variants

Some variants may give orcs (including the player) an AC bonus for wearing orcish ring mail.

dNethack

In dNetHack, orcish chain mail grants 1 AC, 1 DR and MC1 when worn, and weighs 125 aum, which is half of its weight in vanilla NetHack.

UnNetHack

In UnNetHack, player orcs wearing orcish ring mail gain a +1 AC bonus.

EvilHack

In EvilHack, orcish ring mail grants +1 AC to orcish monsters that wear them.

You can create orcish chain mail at a forge by combining an orcish helm and an orcish shield.
