A short sword weighs 30, costs 10, is made out of iron, and is represented by ). It does 1d6 damage to small monsters, and 1d8 to large monsters. Other short swords are elven short sword, orcish short sword and dwarvish short sword. To samurai, it is known as a wakizashi. Slash'EM and SporkHack add a silver short sword as well.
A short sword is included in the starting equipment of Rogues, Samurai and 50% of Barbarians. The weakest of the swords, it lacks the damage of larger weapons and there is no artifact version.
