A beast cutter is a type of weapon seen in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a one-handed blunt/slashing weapon that uses the flail skill and is usually made out of iron. At skilled and expert it gains the hew, stunning strike, penetrate armor and bleed expert traits.
When applied, the beast cutter transforms into a beast crusher, which is a type of one-handed blunt/piercing weapon that is usually made out of iron. At skilled and expert it gains the hew, stunning strike and knock back expert traits.
Both forms of the weapon have the serrated property that adds 20% to bonus damage made against unarmored monsters with less than 8 DR.

Generation
Beast crushers make up 1⁄1000 of randomly generated weapons. Beast cutters do not randomly generate.
In 90% of games, Undead hunters will find a beast crusher in their quest home in a chest in the top-left corner of the map in a room containing a forge.
Strategy
The beast cutter is most useful early on, when it is capable of dealing extra damage against unarmored foes. Later on its damage will begin to feel lacking, as monster hp totals balloon. However, as no Undead hunter starts with it, the earliest it can be found is the quest, by which time this advantage is somewhat lessened by bigger hp totals. Generally, the weapon will find the most use there, especially if a character rushes getting to level 14 as soon as possible, and drop off in usefulness after. If properly culted and smithed to +10, it is still mostly viable, but will not really offer the same damage output as some other Undead hunter weapons.
