A crystal ice golem, ', is a type of monster that appears in UnNetHack. The crystal ice golem is a type of golem that has an affinity to cold, and like the ice golem it is also strong and thick-skinned due to its composition. Crystal ice golems cannot be made tame.
Crystal ice golems have a powerful weapon attack and a powerful randomized breath weapon, and possess cold resistance, shock resistance, sleep resistance, poison resistance, disintegration resistance, magic resistance, and death resistance.
Crystal ice golems are poisonous to consume, which primarily comes up if they are digested by another monster.
Generation
Crystal ice golems are only randomly generated in Sheol, and normally-created ones are always hostile. Crystal ice golems are always generated with 160 HP under normal circumstances. They are not valid polymorph forms, and cannot be created by polypiling like other golems.
Several crystal ice golems are generated on floors within Sheol at level creation:
- Each filler level will always randomly place two crystal ice golems at level creation.
- The middle level of Sheol will randomly place a crystal ice golem at level creation.
- The top level of the palace within Sheol will generate a crystal ice golem in each of the ice wall-blocked rooms at level creation.
- The bottom level of the palace within Sheol will randomly place 2 crystal ice golems at level creation.
A crystal ice golem does not leave a corpse upon death.
Strategy
Crystal ice golems are much stronger and more common than standard ice golems, and their randomized breath can spell serious trouble for a hero without a stellar kit in general and a source of reflection in particular.
Origin
The crystal ice golem is derived from the crystal golem of SLASH'EM, sharing the same powerful melee attack and randomized breath attack—though its base monster level and MR score are lower and it lacks reflection like the crystal golem, both of the crystal ice golem's attacks are more powerful and it also has disintegration resistance.
