Generation
Anachrononauts start the game with knowledge of the double force-blade's identified appearance.
Double force-blades are not randomly generated and cannot be wished for by a hero that isn't a Tourist, though they may still be found in bones.
A double force-blade is generated in the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest locate levels.
Several monsters that are encountered in the future can be generated with a double force-blade.
- Parasitized gynoids have a 1⁄9 chance of being generated with a double force-blade and a vibroblade.
- Parasitized androids have a 1⁄9 chance of being generated with a double force-blade.
- Nazguls have a 1⁄4 (25%) chance of being generated with a double force-blade.
Description
Double force-blades inflict piercing damage and have a +2 to-hit bonus. When uncharged, they deal 1d6 damage against small monsters and 1d4 against large monsters. If the double force-blade is charged, it instead deals 3d6+6 against small monsters and 3d4+4 against large monsters. Wielding a double force-blade and while not two-weaponing doubles its base damage, for a total of 1d6/1d4 when uncharged, and 6d6+12/6d4+8 when charged, gaining double enchantment bonus as well. A double force-blade of larger or smaller size has its base damage dice similarly modified, always gaining two additional damage dice, and two times half a dice as bonus damage when charged. A hero wielding a double force-blade while they are at Skilled or better in quarterstaff gains the "cleave" expert traits. Swinging a gold-bladed vibrosword costs an additional 1⁄4 movement points to attack, costing 15 movement points as opposed to the 12 most weapons do.
When applied, the double force-blade splits into two separate force blades and begins two-weaponing with them. When a force blade is re-applied while its pair is held in the offhand they will recombine into the double force-blade. However, if one of the individual force blades had less remaining charges, the recombined double force-blade will retain the lesser amount of charges between the two blades.
A double force-blade is normally generated with 80 to 99 charges unless otherwise specified, and can be recharged any number of times. Recharging a double force-blade has different effects based on the beautitude of the charging source: blessed charging sets charges to 100, cursed charging sets charges to 10 and uncursed charging sets the charges to a number between 80 and 99.
In terms of monster weapon preference, monsters will prefer the double force-blade to a double lightsaber, and will prefer a white vibrozanbato or better to the double force-blade.
