An elven scimitar is a type of weapon that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack. The elven scimitar is a medium-sized melee weapon that is one-handed for a medium-sized wielder, and uses the scimitar skill. It has a base material of wood, and appears as a "runed curved sword" when unidentified.
Generation
Elven scimitars are not generated randomly, though they can be wished for or found in bones.
A wrathful metal elven scimitar is generated on the locate level of the Kensei quest for elven Kensei.
Some monsters can be generated with elven scimitars:
- Desert seers have an effective 1⁄3 chance of being given a metal elven scimitar that is paired with another weapon, with a 3⁄4 chance of a second metal elven scimitar and a 1⁄4 chance of a metal viperwhip.
- Poltergeists created by rage-walkers have a 1⁄8 chance of being generated wielding a cursed iron elven scimitar that has a minimum enchantment of +3.
- Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs generated outside of the future have an effective 19⁄80 (23.75%) chance of being generated with a blessed +9 wrathful elven scimitar that has an independent 1⁄100 chance of being mercurial in material.
Description
An elven scimitar inflicts slashing damage, dealing 1d8+3 damage against small monsters and 1d6+1 damage against large ones. An elven scimitar can be coated in poison by dipping it in an appropriate potion. A hero that wields an elven scimitar while Skilled or better in scimitars gains the "long slash", "striking" and "bladedance" expert traits.
In terms of monster weapon preference, monsters will favor the elven scimitar over the hunter's long-axe, and will prefer a cutlass or better to the elven scimitar.
