Ghaunadaur
Religion in NetHack |
---|
In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, Ghaunadaur is the chaotic god for the pantheon of male drow Nobles.
Description
Ghaunadaur is a chaotic god of unholiness, and its minions consist of hedrow warriors, hedrow wizards, driders, shoggoths, priests of Ghaunadaur, and priestesses of Ghaunadaur. Its crowning gift is The Ruinous Descent of Stars, a chaotic and intelligent artifact that favors drow, and its base item is a morning star made of silvered metal.
A temple to Ghaunadaur created outside the Astral Plane will generate either a peaceful priestess of Ghaunadaur or a peaceful hedrow blademaster minion in place of an aligned priest as the monster tending to the temple altar.

Origin
Ghaunadaur appears in Lords of Madness (2005) as a god to aberrations, specifically as a lord of oozes, slimes and other shapeless underground monsters. Its main body of worshipers consists of renegade drow and Aboleths, though Ghaunadaur is prone to unpredictable whims and does not particularly favor any of its followers and does not necessarily reward those who wish to curry its favor. It also goes by the name of the Elder Eye and is part of the drow pantheon, though only nominally. Its symbol, which also appears in dNetHack and its derivatives on drow armor and signet rings as a holy symbol, is that of a purple black eye inlaid on a black circle.
