The Jaquio, &, is the Ninja (role) quest nemesis in SlashTHEM. It is a demon that guards the Bell of Opening and the Fuma-itto no Ken, the Ninja quest artifact. The Jaquio is a chaotic major demon that is strong, can see invisible, is capable of flight, has infravision, and can be seen via infravision. Like all quest nemeses, it will follow the hero to other levels if they are adjacent. The Jaquio is covetous and capable of warping, will try to avoid the hero, will pick up any weapons, armor and other items that it comes across, and desires the Ninja quest artifact.

The Jaquio has a strong weapon attack, a gaze attack that can be of a random element, and will attempt to cast one mage and one clerical monster spell during each of its turns. The Jaquio possesses stoning resistance like all quest nemeses, along with the fire resistance, poison resistance, drain resistance, and death resistance that all major demons have.

The Jaquio is poisonous to consume, which comes up if it is digested by another monster.

Generation

The Jaquio is always generated hostile, and is not a valid form for polymorph or genocide.

For Ninja, The Jaquio is generated on the goal level of the Ninja quest, where they are placed at the center of the keep, with the Fuma-itto no Ken underneath. It is always generated with the Bell of Opening.

In line with the flavor text produced from its defeat (copied from the Samurai quest), the Jaquio will never leave a corpse upon death.

Origin

Guardia de Mieux (ガルディア・ダ・ミュー, Guardia da Mu), known as the Jaquio (邪鬼王 Jaki-Oh?, King of the Devils) or simply "Jaquio", is a primary antagonist in the original trilogy of Ninja Gaiden games, and appears in both the first Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II.

The Jaquio is a demonic sorcerer and cult leader that seeks to revive an ancient evil known as the "Jashin" or "Dark Demon". In Ninja Gaiden, the Jaquio takes control of an ancient ruin in South America that was sealed off by professor Walter Smith—Walter is an acquaintance of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan leader Jô Hayabusa, legendary Master Ninja, descendant of the Dragon Lineage, and father of the protagonist and player character Ryu Hayabusa. Jaquio sends his assassins, the Malice Four, to steal the Demon Statue and break the seal on the Jashin, plunging the world into darkness. After the Malice Four steal the Shadow Statue from Ryu's father, Jaquio tricks Ryu into surrendering the Light statue while he prepares the ritual in front of the Demon's body in an Amazon temple. He succeeds in breaking the seal on the Demon, but both he and the dark god are defeated by Ryu and the Dragon Sword.

In Ninja Gaiden II: Dark Sword of Chaos, the Jaquio appears as one of the final bosses alongside Ashtar, who is revealed to be the Jaquio's master throughout the events of this game and the first game, as well as the Demon from the previous game. The Jaquio takes Irene hostage and grievously wounds US Army agent Robert T. Sturgeon—he later meets Ryu near a demonic altar, and reveals that the energy of the spirit of the Demon flowed into his body after their last battle, resurrecting him and giving him unfathomable evil power. Despite this, he is defeated only for his blood touches the cursed blade of the Dark Sword of Chaos, and it sucks the life out of Irene, reviving him again in the form of a demon. Even with his regained power, he is once again defeated by Ryu, who goes on to defeat Ashtar and the resurrected Demon once and for all.
