A living lectern:
| |
A living lectern, ', is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The living lectern is a type of golem composed of an animated spellbook on a stand made of wood: in addition to other standard golem traits, it is thick-skinned, amphibious and lacks HP regeneration.
A living lectern has two claw attacks and a magic missile attack, and possesses sleep resistance, poison resistance and death resistance like all golems.
Generation
Living lecterns are not randomly generated, and normally-created living lecterns are always hostile. Living lecterns always generate with 50 HP.
A living lectern is guaranteed to appear in the ruined library of the Lost Cities within the Neutrality Quest, with a 1⁄4 chance of a second one being generated. Waterlogged libraries generate one to four living lecterns at level creation.
Living lecterns drop 2-6 clubs and a random spellbook upon death in place of a corpse.
