Description
The mass-shadow pistol is a unique type of pistol that does not have a fixed type of ammunition it fires — instead, it may be applied or looted when on the ground to slot a type of ammo into it. When it is fired, a copy of the slotted projectile is fired, expending a charge instead of ammo. It accepts the following types of items as ammo:
Fired projectiles are treated as if they had been fired from an appropriate launcher but will always mulch, with explosive ammo exploding on hit or once it reaches the mass-shadow pistol's range limit as normal. Fired artifacts will act as perfect copies of the original. The Fluorite Octahedron, for example, will receive the same damage bonuses as if it had been fired from a sling. Note that loadstones will retain their auto-cursing properties. The mass-shadow pistol has a total range of 10 squares and gains a +0 to-hit bonus. When fired at Basic skill in firearms it shoots 1 projectile, increasing to 1–2 at Skilled, and again to 2–3 at Expert. Mass-shadow pistol do not benefit from expert traits.
Mass-shadow pistols are normally generated with 800 to 1000 charges unless otherwise specified, and can be recharged any number of times. Recharging has different effects based on the beautitude of the charging source: blessed charging sets charges to 1000, cursed charging sets charges to 100 and uncursed charging sets the charges to a number between 800 and 999.
Monsters will not use rayguns independently of what ammo is slotted, preferring all other ranged weapons to it.
