For the monster class in dNetHack, notdNetHack, notnotdNetHack, see plant (dNetHack).

The plant, or plant-like creature, is a monster class that appears in EvilHack, and is represented by the left curly bracket glyph, {. Plants and plant-like creatures are designated internally by the macro S_PLANT.

The class contains the following monsters:

Common traits

All plants and plant-like creatures are either neutral or chaotic in alignment, and are mindless and breathless. Plants lack eyes, and the creeping mound and assassin vine are also headless, while the assassin vine is additionally limbless. All plants except for the inediate assassin vine are capable of eating meat, and the twig blight and tree blight are carnivorous outright (the creeping mound is an omnivore). Plants that are not considered blights (i.e. the creeping mound and assassin vine) are considered woodland creatures.

Plants take +d4 damage from axe weapons and take 3-6 less damage from blunt weapons, and they have immunity to sickness. The creeping mound has a vulnerability to acid, while the tree and needle blights have a vulnerability to fire.

Plants are vegan to consume, which primarily comes up if they are digested by another monster.

Generation

Randomly generated plants and plant-like creatures are always hostile, and will not generate randomly in Gehennom. Plants can be generated in Purgatory.

Plants and plant-like creatures may rarely appear in gardens.

The plant is the second quest monster class for the Druid, and makes up 6175 of all randomly generated monsters on the Druid quest.

History

The plant monster class first appears in version 0.9.0.
