Generation

Ruffled shirts are not randomly generated normally, though they can be wished for or found in bones.

Several types of hero can start with a ruffled shirt.

Several races of Madpeople can find a ruffled shirt among their belongings within their special quest box.

  • Human, incantifier, gnomish, hedrow, and vampire Madmen are each given a ruffled shirt.
  • Dwarven Madpeople are always given a black ruffled shirt.
  • Elven Madmen are given a ruffled shirt that has a roughly equal probability of being colored brown or green.
  • Tiefling Madmen are given a red-colored and thoroughly tattered +2 ruffled shirt that is fitted to their starting physical size.

Several monsters can be generated with a ruffled shirt.

  • Imps that are generated in Gehennom or slated for good equipment have a chance of generating with an equipment set that includes a ruffled shirt.
  • Daruth Xaxox, the quest nemesis for the Hedrow shared quest, is always generated with a cursed fireproof +5 ruffled shirt.
  • Lady Constance, the apparent Madperson quest leader, is always generated with a +3 ruffled shirt.
  • Male servants are always generated with ruffled shirts.
  • Carcosan courtiers generated in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) have an effective 18 chance (12.5%) of being created with a ruffled shirt, while those generated outside of the future instead have an effective 14 chance (25%) of being generated with a ruffled shirt.
  • Deminymphs can be generated with kits that include a ruffled shirt under certain circumstances:
    • A deminymph that gets a "madwoman/undead hunter" hybrid equipment set will be given a ruffled shirt that has an enchantment ranging from +0 to +3.
    • A deminymph that gets a "pirate" equipment set will be given a ruffled shirt that has an enchantment ranging from +0 to +3.
  • Vampire lords that are generated in the future are always created with a ruffled shirt that has an enchantment ranging from +3 to +6, while those created outside of the future have a 120 chance of being given a ruffled shirt as part of their "noble" or "knight" kits.
  • Vlad the Impaler is always generated with a ruffled shirt.
  • Male fallen angels have a 16 chance of being generated with an equipment set that includes a cloth ruffled shirt.
  • Dispater, Belial, Levistus, and Mephistopheles are each always generated with ruffled shirts.
  • Player monster madmen that are slated for "good equipment" or created on the Astral Plane are always generated with a ruffled shirt.
  • Player monster noblemen are always generated with ruffled shirts.

Description

While worn, a ruffled shirt grants 0 base AC and 0 DR, and takes one action to wear or take off. A hero wearing a ruffled shirt gains a +1 bonus to charisma, with an additional enchantment-based bonus to charisma if they are not wearing body armor of any kind over it.
