A ruffled shirt is a type of shirt that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It has a default material of cloth.
Generation
Ruffled shirts are not randomly generated normally, though they can be wished for or found in bones.
Several types of hero can start with a ruffled shirt.
- Vampiric Binders start each game with a tattered +0 ruffled shirt.
- Nobles with the default starting inventory–humans, incantifiers, hedrow, and vampires–will start each game with a +0 ruffled shirt. Elven Nobles are given a +0 elven shield in place of the ruffled shirt.
- Undead Hunters start each game with a +0 ruffled shirt.
Several races of Madpeople can find a ruffled shirt among their belongings within their special quest box.
- Human, incantifier, gnomish, hedrow, and vampire Madmen are each given a ruffled shirt.
- Dwarven Madpeople are always given a black ruffled shirt.
- Elven Madmen are given a ruffled shirt that has a roughly equal probability of being colored brown or green.
- Tiefling Madmen are given a red-colored and thoroughly tattered +2 ruffled shirt that is fitted to their starting physical size.
Several monsters can be generated with a ruffled shirt.
- Imps that are generated in Gehennom or slated for good equipment have a chance of generating with an equipment set that includes a ruffled shirt.
- Daruth Xaxox, the quest nemesis for the Hedrow shared quest, is always generated with a cursed fireproof +5 ruffled shirt.
- Lady Constance, the apparent Madperson quest leader, is always generated with a +3 ruffled shirt.
- Male servants are always generated with ruffled shirts.
- Carcosan courtiers generated in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) have an effective 1⁄8 chance (12.5%) of being created with a ruffled shirt, while those generated outside of the future instead have an effective 1⁄4 chance (25%) of being generated with a ruffled shirt.
- Deminymphs can be generated with kits that include a ruffled shirt under certain circumstances:
- A deminymph that gets a "madwoman/undead hunter" hybrid equipment set will be given a ruffled shirt that has an enchantment ranging from +0 to +3.
- A deminymph that gets a "pirate" equipment set will be given a ruffled shirt that has an enchantment ranging from +0 to +3.
- Vampire lords that are generated in the future are always created with a ruffled shirt that has an enchantment ranging from +3 to +6, while those created outside of the future have a 1⁄20 chance of being given a ruffled shirt as part of their "noble" or "knight" kits.
- Vlad the Impaler is always generated with a ruffled shirt.
- Male fallen angels have a 1⁄6 chance of being generated with an equipment set that includes a cloth ruffled shirt.
- Dispater, Belial, Levistus, and Mephistopheles are each always generated with ruffled shirts.
- Player monster madmen that are slated for "good equipment" or created on the Astral Plane are always generated with a ruffled shirt.
- Player monster noblemen are always generated with ruffled shirts.
Description
While worn, a ruffled shirt grants 0 base AC and 0 DR, and takes one action to wear or take off. A hero wearing a ruffled shirt gains a +1 bonus to charisma, with an additional enchantment-based bonus to charisma if they are not wearing body armor of any kind over it.
