Daruth Xaxox
Daruth Xaxox, @, is the quest nemesis for the hedrow shared quest in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. He is an alien hedrow that guards the Bell of Opening and the quest artifact, the Darkweaver's Cloak. Daruth is strong, has darkvision and the ability to see invisible, can be seen via infravision, and is skilled in martial combat—as an alien being, he lowers the hero's sanity and raises their insight. He is covetous, will pick up weapons and magical items that he comes across, and desires the hero's quest artifact.
Uniquely to the racial quests for a drow hero, Daruth Xaxox will offer them an opportunity to switch sides and instead assassinate Eclavdra, the original quest leader. Should the hero accept this, Daruth will then become peaceful and act as their new quest leader.
Daruth has two weapon attacks, two long-reaching intelligence drain attacks, a claw attack that can steal the quest artifact if the hero obtains it, and will cast one monster spell arcanely during each of his turns. He possesses fire resistance, sleep resistance, disintegration resistance, and the stoning resistance of all quest nemeses and leaders, along with a weakness to iron like all drow.
Eating Daruth Xaxox's corpse or tin grants temporary sleep resistance.
