Sol Valtiva is an artifact weapon that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is the signature weapon of Lord Surtur, the Valkyrie quest nemesis. It is chaotic and favors fire giants, and its base item is a two-handed sword made of obsidian.
Generation
Sol Valtiva is not randomly generated and cannot be wished for. It is always created in the possession of Lord Surtur when he is generated on the goal level of the Valkyrie quest.
Description
While carried, Sol Valtiva grants fire resistance, and while wielded it also acts as a light source.
As a weapon, Sol Valtiva has a +1d5 to-hit bonus and deals +1d24 extra fire damage against monsters without fire resistance, and the artifact can be applied to pound like a polearm. On each hit, it has a 1⁄4 chance of causing an explosion that deals 6d6 fire damage, a 1⁄3 chance of blinding targets, and shines bright light on struck targets that petrifies most trolls and instantly kills gremlins and hunting horrors by turning them to dust. Both the fire damage it does and the fiery explosions can burn armor and destroy potions, scrolls and spellbooks in the open inventory of its targets.
