Jrt Netjeru are original to dNetHack. The name comes from Ancient Egyptian - "Jrt" means "eye", and "Netjer" means "god", so "Jrt Netjeru" means something like "eye god" or "eye of god". They are inspired by the Eye of Ra and Eye of Horus.
