Wand
Wands are magical devices. They allow non-wizard characters to cast spells and wizards to cast spells they do not know. Wands have a specific number of charges. When all charges have been used, the wand cannot be used for magic anymore if not recharged.
The purpose of a given wand is not known before it is identified: they only appear by description, such as an ivory wand. Without an identify spell, wands can be identified by enscribing with them or zapping them.
Wands can be broken by applying them. Breaking a wand causes a magical blast that hits you and the monsters around you and causes them the kind of damage that zapping the wand would do. To break a wand, your strength must be at least 10.
Enscribing
The easiest and safest way to identify with a wand is to Enscribe with it. To do so, first writes something in the dust with your fingers, the Enscribe something else with the wand. Several things can happen depending on what kind of wand it is.
- A wand of polymorph will change the text to something else
- A wand of striking will create bullet holes (and is automatically identified)
- A wand of invisibility will cause the text to dissapear – but so will a wand of teleportation
- A wand of speed/slow monster will affect the bugs on the ground respectively. However, the same thing happens with a wand of death and a wand of sleeping.
