Neverwas

A neverwas (plural neverwere or neverweres), n, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The neverwas is an always-female type of non-fey humanoid nymph that is demonic, undead and extra-terrestrial in nature: she is unsolid, possesses infravision and bloodsense, is capable of flight and phasing, can follow a hero to other levels if she is close enough, has the normal teleportitis and similar teleporting abilities of other nymphs, and lacks HP regeneration due to being undead. Seeing a neverwas can lower the hero's sanity and raise their insight.

Neverweres have a vampiric bite attack and two claw attacks that can charm victims. They possess cold resistance, sleep resistance, poison resistance, and stoning resistance, along with drain resistance and death resistance due to being undead, and have a weakness to silver like other demons.

Neverweres can be warded by a Elder Sign at any level of reinforcement, as well as a fourfold-or-better Elder Elemental Eye.

Generation

Neverweres are not randomly generated in the main dungeon or Gehennom normally, although they are flagged to only appear in the latter, and are normally generated as hostile. They are not a valid genocide target.

Neverweres may be generated as minions of Hel.

Neverweres make up 263 of the monsters randomly generated on the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest.

Neverweres generated outside of the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest have a 12 chance each of generating with a mirror and a potion of object detection—neverweres generated within these levels are not given elven armor like other nymphs.

Neverweres do not leave corpses upon death.

what was born. But if the time lock's broken then everything is
coming through. Not just the Daleks, but the Star of

Could-Have-Been King with his army of Meanwhiles and Neverweres.
The war turned into hell! And that's what you've opened. Right
above the Earth. Hell is descending.
