A oceanid, n, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The oceanid is a strong type of nymph that is aquatic and elemental as well as fey. Oceanids can be seen via infravision, and roaming oceanids will seek out magical items and other objects to pick up. They have 10 points of 'special' AC.
Oceanids have a weapon attack, a pair of claw attacks that can charm targets, and a passive rust attack.
Generation
Oceanids are not randomly generated, and are normally created peaceful. They are not a valid polymorph form or genocide target, and statues and figurines of them cannot be wished for.
Oceanids are only generated in the Mithardir Quest: they can appear as a shopkeeper for spa shops, a special type of shop that sells nymph-related equipment along with certain tools and clothing-type armor. Spa shops can sell the following items, with given probabilities of an item being placed on each square:
- potions of object detection (11⁄50 chance or 22%);
- mirrors (11⁄50 chance or 22%);
- towels (3⁄20 chance or 15%);
- random armor (2⁄5 chance or 40%); and
- syllables (1⁄100 chance or 1%)
The shop's random armor can consist of: elven togas; gentlemen's suits; gentlewomen's dresses; jackets; fedoras; stilettos; Hawaiian shirts; T-shirts; Victorian underwear; and plain dresses.
