Low boots are a pair of boots that appear in NetHack. They are made of leather, and appear as walking shoes when unidentified.

Generation
In addition to random generation, low boots are sold in armor shops.
Various mercenaries can be generated with a pair of low boots.[1] Quest guardians are commonly given low boots as well:
- Students, attendants, abbots, acolytes, guides, and apprentices have a 2⁄3 chance of generating with low boots.[2]
- Cheftains, pages, roshi, and warriors have a 1⁄2 chance of generating with low boots.[3]
Polymorphing a crocodile corpse will turn it into a pair of fireproof +0 low boots.

Strategy
Low boots are adequate for filling out the boots slots, providing some minimum level of protecction from xans as well as preventing instadeaths from kicking footrices or tripping over their corpses while fumbling. Low boots are occasionally better than iron shoes, since they are much lighter and there are more attacks and hazard that rust metallic armor compared to those that burn or rot organic armor.
Generally, low boots are replaced with the first set of high boots or magical boots a player comes across.
