A tower is a type of vertical column, often a building structured in such a manner. In NetHack, a tower can refer to many things:
- One of several physical locations:
- Vlad's Tower – 3 levels high, accessed via an upstair in Gehennom, with Vlad the Impaler carrying the Candelabrum of Invocation.
- Fake Wizard's Tower – One of two small one-level towers surrounded by moats; one contains a random amulet, while the other contains the portal to the real Wizard's Tower.
- Wizard's Tower – A 3-level tower accessed from lowest level to highest in Gehennom; this tower contains the Wizard of Yendor and the Book of the Dead.
- The corner structures in the Castle, one of which contains a guaranteed wand of wishing, are sometimes referred to as towers.
- The Wizard Quest:
- The Lonely Tower – the home level of the quest
- The Tower of Darkness – the locate level of the quest
- The "tower of flame" produced by a fire trap, magic trap, chest trap, or scroll of fire.
Variants
SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, the Yeoman quest consists of a tower based on the real-life Tower of London, and The Tower of the Dark Lord acts as the home level of the Necromancer quest.
One of the possible results of having a gypsy read your fortune is the Tower card, which will reveal the location of Vlad's Tower.
In the SLethe patch, additional towers are added to the Castle.
