This article is about the chain-like item. For the helm style, see band (helm).
For other uses of the term, see band.

A set of bands, or simply bands, is a type of chain-like item that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is magical and has a default material of iron, always displaying its material regardless of identification.

Jin Gang Zuo is an artifact set of gemstone bands.

Generation

Bands are not randomly generated, although they can be wished for or found in bones.

A set of bands is placed inside a chest within the ogre emperor's stash inside the Mordor Fortress level of the Mordor Ruins Quest during level creation.

An erinys that is either created in Gehennom or slated for "good" equipment has an effective 145 chance of being generated with a set of bands.

Description

Bands cannot carry an enchantment. When used as a weapon, a set of bands inflicts blunt damage and deals 1d4 base damage to all monsters—both the hero and monsters are capable of using bands as weapons. Bands used in combat are capable of entangling a target unless that target is wearing an oilskin cloak, any greased cloak, or is a tiefling hero with the "slippery skin" mutation.

Eating a set of bands, e.g. as a hero polymorphed into a metallivore or having a metallivore monster eat a stray pair of bands, grants 200 nutrition.
