An elven toga, formerly known as elven robes, is a type of body armor that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is large-sized armor that has a base material of cloth.
The elven toga is the base item for the artifact The Web of Lolth.
Generation
Elven Nobles start each game with an elven toga in place of the role's standard gentleman's suit or gentlewoman's dress: elven Noblemen start with a +2 elven toga, while elven Noblewomen start with a +1 elven toga. Elven Binders start each game with an uncursed eroded +0 elven toga. Incantifier Anachrononauts start each game with an uncursed +1 elven toga.
Elven togas are not randomly generated, though they can be wished for or found in bones.
Spa shops in Elshava can stock elven togas.
Some monsters can be generated with elven togas:
- Galadriel is always generated with a blessed and fireproof +7 elven toga.
- Alabaster elf-elders are always generated with elven togas.
- Live elves that are generated in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) after level creation have a 9⁄10 chance of being generated with an elven toga, an elven cloak and elven boots.
- Treesingers are always generated with elven togas.
- Rhymers have a 9⁄10 chance of generating with an elven toga.
- Carcosan courtiers generated in the future and elsewhere in the dungeon have an effective 1⁄8 chance of generating with an elven toga.
- Nymphs generated in the future that are not intoners, deminymphs, neverwere, or carcosan courtiers have a 2⁄3 chance of being generated with an elven toga, an elven cloak and elven boots.
- Player monster bards are always generated with elven togas.
- Incantifiers generated in the future have a 1⁄3 chance of generating with an elven toga.
A hero can request an elven toga from a treesinger as part of their smithing services, and such elven togas can be made of dragonhide.
Description
Wearing an elven toga grants 0 base AC, 1 base DR to the upper torso, MC2, and a +2 bonus to charisma. Wearing or removing an elven toga takes 5 actions. An elven toga is light armor and grants an AC bonus equal to (dexterity - 11)2 (rounded down), and in its default shape it can fit on bulkier humanoid bodies such as those of centaurs.
As with all other elven armor, an elven toga can be enchanted from as high as +5, whereas most other armor may be destroyed if enchanted while above +3.
