Ent (monster class)

The ent or tree-like creature is a monster class that appears in EvilHack, and is represented by the hash mark glyph, #. Ents and tree-like creatures are designated internally by the macro S_ENT.

Common traits

The monster class consists of two types of tree-like creatures: the neutral "true ents" and the chaotic "evil trees". As animated tree-like beings, all members of the monster class are large or bigger in physical size, and are strong, thick-skinned and capable of picking up and throwing boulders—they cannot wear armor, wield weapons or ride other monsters, but can put on amulets and rings and utilize other items. All ents and ent-like beings have very low movement speed: the stationary gulthias tree is the "fastest" of them at 10 speed, with the next-fastest being tree blights at 8 speed. Ents have poison resistance, sleep resistance and immunity to sickness, and with the exception of the petrified ent they are vulnerable to fire.

All neutral "true ents" are male and have infravision, and utilize strong 'claw' attacks. Druids that reach experience level 14 can wildshape themselves into the form of an ent, while those that reach level 20 can take the form of an elder ent. Ents and elder ents that are subjected to stoning become petrified ents, and casting stone to flesh on a petrified ent will turn him into a normal ent.

All chaotic tree-like creatures are unbreathing, mindless and neuter carnivores that use strong 'claw' attacks and holding attacks, and possess cold resistance in addition to their other resistances.

Generation

True ents may be created as peaceful towards neutral heroes, and are always peaceful towards Druids, Rangers and non-Infidel elven heroes, while chaotic tree-like creatures are always hostile.
