Eurynome
Eurynome, the Lonely Dancer is a spirit that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack.
Ritual, seal and taboo
Eurynome's seal must be drawn next to a pool of water or a moat. A hero binding Eurynome must chat to the seal while facing the water square across from the seal.
To remain bound to Eurynome, the hero must not skip a turn using the rest command via .—clockwork automata heroes are permitted to repair themselves using the rest command, but pressing the key any amount of times beyond that will be counted against them. The limit of rest command uses for a hero before they unbind Eurynome is 5, with the amount of presses being incremented by 1 every ten global turns until it reaches the maximum of 5 again.
Mark
A hero that has Eurynome bound will have their shadow become that of a dancing nymph. This dancing shadow can be seen from a distance if they are standing in a lit square, and can still be seen up close if they are standing in a dark square that is illuminated by a light source.
Benefits
While bound, Eurynome grants free action and water walking, along with skill in unarmed combat, i.e. bare hands and martial arts. While the hero is not wielding a weapon in their main hand, she also increases their base attack bonus to +1 to-hit per experience level.
Eurynome's active powers are as follows:
- Vengeance: Damage all adjacent creatures that have damaged you with their attacks, dealing 5 dice of damage.
- Shape the Wind: Creates a number of temporary pets that vanish after five turns. This cannot be used while a dimensional lock is active.
Eurynome's passive powers are as follows:
- Retaliation: Monsters that attack the hero may provoke two bare-handed counterattacks, using your bare-handed combat modifiers, regardless of the hero's wielded weapons. The odds of this happening is 1⁄5 (20%), with a maximum of one counterattack per round.
- Water Dancer: The hero gains increased movement speed while on water, with a 4⁄3 speed boost (+33%) compared to moving over the floor while unhasted, a 23⁄20 speed boost (+15%) compared to moving over the floor with intrinsic fast speed, and a 43⁄20 speed boost (+7.5%) compared to moving over the floor with extrinsic very fast speed.
- Form Dancer: The hero's unarmed attacks use randomly-sized exploding dice, with their die sizes increased up to (2d5) + (2X), where X is always 0 if the hero lacks the martial arts skill, 3 for half-dragons, 2 for heroes that also have Echidna and are not wearing gloves, and 1 for heroes with the martial arts skill. Wearing the Great Claws of Urdlen increases this multiplier by 2. This means a non-martial artist will have die sizes of d2-d10, and a normal martial artist will have die sizes of d4-d12, re-rolling the size on every attack made; if the size rolled is lower than the hero's normal die size (i.e. without Eurynome bound), their normal die size will be used instead. This ability also has a 1⁄2 chance of adding slashing damage to the hero's unarmed attacks, a separate 1⁄2 chance of adding piercing damage, and a 1⁄3 chance of removing blunt damage if slashing or piercing damage was added.

In notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, Eurynome, n, also appears as a monster that can be summoned by an Illithanachronounbinder. She is a omnivorous nymph that is capable of swimming, will randomly teleport, can be seen via infravision, and will pick up items that she comes across. Like many summoned spirits, Eurynome cannot be tamed.
Eurynome has a claw attack that can charm targets like other nymphs can, a long-range touch attack that can paralyze targets for several turns, and another long-range touch attack that can level teleport targets.
Generation
Eurynome is first generated when summoned from her seal by an Illithanachronounbinder. She is always created hostile, and is not a valid polymorph form.
Eurynome is always generated with the uncursed Eurynome's Dancing Shoes: Eurynome's Dancing Shoes are an artifact pair of speed boots that grant stealth and free action while worn, and can be safely enchanted from +5 or below.
Eurynome does not leave a corpse upon death.
Strategy
Below this point, there are major spoilers for the Illithanachronounbinder role. They can be accessed by selecting the "Role spoiler" tab.
If Eurynome is killed after being summoned, she can be encountered again in the Void, a branch accessed by opening the high altar of Ilsensine the Fallen as an Illithanachronounbinder using the invoke effect of The Elder Cerebral Fluid. Eurynome is generated along with many other spirits of the near void on the first floor of the branch, and is generated with the "whispers" template, which makes her nonliving.
Encyclopedia entry
In the beginning, Eurynome,
The Goddess of All Things,
Rose naked from Chaos.
She found nothing upon
Which to rest her feet, and thus,
She divided the sea from the sky.
She danced lonely upon
The waves of the sea.
She danced towards the South, and
The Wind set in motion behind her
Seemed something new and strange
With which to begin a work of creation.
Wheeling about, she caught hold of
This North wind, rubbed it between
Her hands, and behold!
The great serpent Ophion.
[...]
Eurynome and Ophion made their home upon
Mount Olympus where he vexed her by
Claiming to be the author of the Universe.
Forthwith, she bruised his head with her heel,
Kicked out his teeth, and banished him to the
Dark caves below the Earth
[...]
She took joy in her creation, but soon found
Herself alone desiering the face, voice,
Ear and warmth of another of her own.
Eurynome stood up and once again
Began to dance alone upon the waves.
