Archaic plate mail is a type of body armor that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is the equivalent to bronze plate mail in NetHack and some other variants, and is renamed to accommodate the object materials system. Archaic plate mail is huge-sized armor that is made of copper.

Samurai know archaic plate mail as jodai no katchu.

Generation

Half-dragon Noblemen start the game with +1 archaic plate mail.

Archaic plate mail makes up 150 (2%) of body armor randomly generated on the ground, in shops or as death drops. General stores, used armor dealerships and antique weapon outlets can also stock archaic plate mail, as can the sand-walker's shops in Elshava.

Half-dragon Madpeople that started the game as male will have a +2 silver archaic plate mail of brilliance generated among their belongings in the quest box on the goal level of the Madperson quest during level creation.

The piles of wreckage found in the Law Quest each have a 12 chance of containing large archaic plate mail that is thoroughly corroded.

Hellish seals that contain a Jrt Netjer may have archaic plate mail generated inside.

Archaic plate mail can be generated in the magic item vaults that appear within the Avatar of Lolth's lair during level creation if it appears as the second Abyss level.

Several monsters (including statues) can generate with archaic plate mail.

  • Ancient nagas, Throne Archons, Ghaele Eladrin, clockwork automata, and formian taskmasters are always generated with archaic plate mail that fits their body shape.
  • Certain statues in the Law Quest can be generated with archaic plate mail inside:
    • Statues of colossal clockwork war-machines each have gigantic-sized cursed archaic plate mail that has an enchantment equal to the product of two d3 rolls (i.e. d3*d3 or +1 to +9) and up to two levels of corrosion. The pile of items around the statue has a 110 chance of containing archaic plate mail as well.
    • Statues of clockwork automata each have cursed archaic plate mail that has a 45 chance of being given an enchantment equal to the highest between its normal roll and the sum of 2 d3 rolls (i.e. +2 to +6), along with up to two levels of corrosion.
  • Guardian nagas and guardian naga hatchlings have a 25 chance of generating with snakeleg archaic plate mail.
  • Hygieian Archons generated with endgame equipment always generate with blessed silver archaic plate mail that has the holy object property.
  • Graha Devas are always generated with +7 corrosion-proofed archaic plate mail.
  • Mahadevas are always generated with +9 corrosion-proofed archaic plate mail.
  • Deep ones and deeper ones generated on R'lyeh, the lowest floor of the Neutral Quest, are always generated with cursed archaic plate mail that has an enchantment of +3 for deep ones and +6 for deeper ones.
  • Githyanki pirates always generate with archaic plate mail, which has a 140 chance of being set to +3.
  • Carcosan courtiers generated outside of future levels (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) have a 120 chance of generating with archaic plate mail.
  • Vampire lords generated in future levels (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) always generate with archaic plate mail that has an enchantment ranging from +3 to +6.
  • Mumakil have a 1100 chance of being generated with archaic plate mail made to fit their body shape and size.
  • Naome always generates with cursed +4 archaic plate mail that is always made of copper.
  • Baalzebub always generates with cursed +7 gold archaic plate mail that is made to fit his body shape and size.

Aphanactonan assessors that are destroyed leave behind a special death drop that includes 2-8 sets of +4 copper archaic plate mail.

Description

While worn, archaic plate mail grants 5 base AC, 5 base DR and MC3. Wearing or taking off archaic plate mail takes 5 actions total. As heavy armor, it does not grant any dexterity bonuses.
