A lightning paraelemental, E, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The lightning paraelemental is a form of elemental associated with electricity that is unsolid, strong and capable of flight. Lightning paraelementals can sense other monsters via echolocation, and emit light in a 1-square radius centered on their form. Lightning paraelementals have 8 points of 'natural' AC.

Lighting paraelementals have a shocking touch attack and a passive shock attack that both deal elemental shock damage. They possess shock resistance, poison resistance, stoning resistance, and immunity to sickness. As elemental beings, lightning paraelementals are vulnerable to the Nurturing Word of Creation, whose active power deals (XL2)d12 damage to them.

Lighting paraelementals can be warded by a pentagram or Elder Elemental Eye at any level of reinforcement.

Generation

Randomly-generated lightning paraelementals may be created as peaceful towards neutral heroes. They are not a valid genocide target.

Lighting paraelementals may appear as minions of Umberlee, Hermes, Poseidon, Manannan Mac Lir, Shukongoshin, Laozi, and the deep blue sea.

A half-dragon Troubadour that has a lightning breath weapon gains the ability to sing a tame lightning paraelemental into being at experience level 14, which costs 45 power.

Invoking Ehecailacocozcatl can summon a tame lightning paraelemental.

The Hmnyw-Pharaoh has a 121 chance of creating a lightning paraelemental whenever he summons monsters to his position while he is not visible to the hero (who must have 40 insight to see him)—if the Hmnyw-Pharaoh is visible, he instead has a 18 chance of creating a lightning paraelemental whenever he summons monsters to his position. Lighting paraelementals generated this way are not treated as summoned or temporary and ignore extinction.

Lighting paraelementals do not leave a corpse upon death.
