A mad seer:
| |
A mad seer, @, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The mad seer is a strong female human that can see invisible, possesses monster detection and omni-sense alongside normal vision, and can be seen via infravision—mad seers are also capable of picking up magical items and other objects. A hero seeing a mad seer will raise their insight (though they only appear for Anachrononauts, who start the game with the veil lifted). Mad seers cannot be made tame.
A mad seer has the ability to cast one psionic monster spell during each of her turns, and possesses magic resistance.
Generation
Mad seers are not randomly generated, and normally generated mad seers are always generated peaceful. The mad seer is not a valid polymorph form or genocide target, and figurines or statues of a mad seer cannot be generated or wished for.
Seven mad seers are placed in the central room of the base at the western end of the Anachrononaut quest's home level during level creation, and they are each placed within closet-like "cells" behind a set of iron bars surrounding the center of this room—one such "cell" left of the room's center is instead occupied by Sara, the Last Oracle.
