A power pack is a type of magic tool that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a tiny-sized tool that has a base material of plastic and is considered a futuristic item. It appears as a "little white cube" when unidentified.
Generation
Anachrononauts start the game with knowledge of the power pack's identified appearance.
Human, Half-dragon, Incantifier, Vampire, Drow, and Hedrow Anachrononauts start each game with 5 uncursed power packs. Elf Anachrononauts instead start each game with 10.
Several quest levels can generate power packs:
- 3 uncursed power packs are generated in the top left storage room inside the bastion on the Anachrononaut quest home level. The Android quest home level may generate 0–2 power packs, one with a 1⁄2 chance of another being generated, and the other with a 1⁄4 chance.
- 1 power pack is generated in the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest locate levels.
- 2 power packs are generated in the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest goal levels, which may be embedded in the walls.
- 1 power pack is generated on Anachrononaut quest and Android quest "filler B" levels.
- 1 power pack is always generated in the Lawful Incantifier Kensei, with 7 other that may generate, each with a 3⁄4 chance.
Power packs are not randomly generated and cannot be wished for by a hero that isn't a Tourist, though they may still be found in bones.
For Incantifier Kensei, gray fungal towers generated in the Kensei quest may generate with 0–2 power packs, each with a 1⁄2 chance.
Power packs are generated in stacks of 6–10.
Description
A hero applying a power pack will be prompted to pick an item to recharge, with the effects depending on the beautitude of the power pack. Blessed, uncursed and cursed power packs behave identically to scrolls of charging of the same beautitude.
