Generation
Nobles other than half-dragons may be given a ring of alacrity as the random ring in their starting inventory. Wizards may be given a ring of alacrity as one of the two random rings in their starting inventory.
General stores and jewelers shops can stock rings of shock resistance.
Description
A hero putting on the ring gains very fast speed as an extrinsic (the same as a worn pair of speed boots), and wearing the ring decrements their nutrition by 1 on every even-numbered turn similar to the ring of regeneration and ring of conflict. Gaining speed from putting on the ring or losing speed from removing the ring will auto-identify it. Monsters will not wear this ring.
Eating the ring has a 1⁄3 chance of successfully absorbing its magic and granting intrinsic speed.
A ring of alacrity can be used with an upgrade kit to repair the speed boosters of imperial elven boots, granting very fast speed while the boots are worn.
Strategy
The ring of alacrity is a source of very fast speed that opens up a wide swathe of property combinations and armor choices for a hero's kit, especially when constructing an ascension kit.
Using the ring to repair imperial elven boots for their speed is highly impractical, since this can also be done with the far more common wand of speed monster.
