A ring of alacrity is a type of ring that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack.

Description

Putting on the ring grants the hero extrinsic very fast speed, the same as a worn pair of speed boots, and decrements their nutrition by 1 on every even-numbered turn similar to the ring of regeneration and ring of conflict. Gaining speed from putting on the ring or losing speed from removing the ring will auto-identify it. Monsters will not wear this ring.

Eating the ring has a 13 chance of successfully absorbing its magic and granting intrinsic speed.

A ring of alacrity can be used with an upgrade kit to repair the speed boosters of imperial elven boots, granting very fast speed while the boots are worn.

Strategy

The ring of alacrity is a source of very fast speed that opens up a wide swathe of new property combinations and armor choices for a hero's kit, especially when constructing an ascension kit.

Using the ring to repair imperial elven boots for their speed is highly impractical, since this can also be done with the far more common wand of speed monster.
