A blood-bullet is a type of projectile that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. Blood-bullets are a tiny-sized object that uses the firearms skill and is designed as ammunition for several types of firearms. It has a base material of hemargyos and appears as a silver pellet when unidentified.

Three other types of bullets exist in dNetHack and its variants:

Generation

Blood-bullets are not randomly generated, though they can be found in bones and wished for.
All Undead Hunters start each game with 20 +0 blood-bullets.
Vampire Undead Hunters instead receive 20 +1 blood-bullets.
Applying a nightmare's bullet mold creates a number of blood-bullets based on your current experience:

  • 5 blood-bullets from XL 1–12
  • 10 blood-bullets from XL 13–21
  • 20 blood-bullets from XL 22–30

20 uncursed +0 blood-bullets are generated in the Undead Hunter quest home's top left room, contained in a chest.
Deminymphs that receive the Undead Hunter kit are generated with 20 blood-bullets 13 of the time.

Description

As firearms ammunition, blood-bullets must be fired or "thrown" from an appropriate launcher to deal their actual base damage, and properly fired blood-bullets will always mulch even on a miss. They deal slashing, piercing, and blunt damage when properly fired from an Undead Hunter weapon or firearm. Blood-spears are the upgraded variant of blood-bullets, available to characters with the "improve blood-bullets" vampiric defilement upgrade. Blood-bullets and blood-spears can also substitute for the 25 energy cost for firing The Holy Moonlight Sword when quivered, following their normal rules for mulching when fired from an appropriate launcher.

Blood-bullets are compatible for use with the following firearm weapons:
