Vicar Wolf

The Vicar Wolf, d, is the animal form of the Undead Hunter's quest leader in dNetHack, notdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack. She is a huge demihuman. She has the "humanoid" body shape and can wear all types of refitted armor.

For every round of combat, the Vicar Wolf has one strong lycanthropy inducing bite attack, one strong weapon attack, a kick attack that may leave a character stuned for 2–18 turns and can cast one clerical spell. As a werecreature the Vicar Wolf takes additional damage from silver weapons and attacks. However, she cannot switch between her human and wolf form, and instead regains 14 hp whenever this would occur, denoted by a message. When healed in this manner, it also cures her of any lingering paralysis or sleep effects, but does not break the meditating state she is generated in. A worn ring of protection from shape-changers prevents this effect. Eating the Vicar Wolf's corpse grants no resistances but does not induce lycanthropy.

The Vicar Wolf's clerical spellcasting will choose from the following list:

  • Mass cure wounds
  • Protection
  • Paralyze
  • Nightmare
  • Cure self

Cure self is 3 times more likely to be chosen than other spells on the list.

Generation

The Vicar Wolf is not normally generated: once at least 38,000 turns have passed, Vicar Amalia has a 1190 of turning into the Vicar Wolf while she is within clear line of sight. The odds increase for every 200 additional turns that pass. Once 48,000 turns have passed since game start, Vicar Amalia will always turn into the Vicar Wolf. Killing the Moon's Chosen, formally completing the second part of the Undead Hunter quest, also prevents Vicar Amalia from turning, if she hasn't already. The Vicar Wolf will retain the blessed +7 blade of mercy, but will be unable to make use of Vicar Amalia's other gear due to differing body sizes.

Origin

Vicar Amelia's transformation into the Vicar Wolf mirrors that of Vicar Amelia, from the 2015 game, Bloodborne.
