Inediate
In NetHack, an inediate creature is one that does not need to eat any kind of food to stay alive. Inediate pets can sometimes be difficult to keep tame, as eating is a primary method of increasing a pet's tameness.
An "inediate" player who completes the game without eating is said to have achieved the foodless conduct.
Generally, monsters that are undead, demonic, angelic, or otherwise magical in nature are inediate; there are a handful of exceptions, such ghouls. Some creatures that eat in the real world, like bees and fungi, are classified as inediate in NetHack.

- Killer bees and queen bees
- Acid blobs and quivering blobs
- Floating eyes, gas spores, shocking spheres, freezing spheres, and flaming spheres
- Gargoyles and gremlins
- Homunculi, manes, imps, lemures, quasits, and tengu
- Blue jellies, spotted jellies, and ochre jellies
- Leprechauns
- Nymphs
- Vortices and fog clouds
- Grid bugs and xan
- Angelic beings
- Elementals and stalkers
- Fungi
- Keystone Kops
- Liches
- Mummies
- Vampires and vampire lords
- Barrow wights, wraiths, and nazgul
- Zombies and skeletons
- Ghosts and shades
- Golems
- Major demons, djinn, sandestins, mail daemons, and the Riders
- Salamanders
- Jellyfish
Variants
Vampires and vampire lords do need to eat in SLASH'EM.
