History
The flail skill is introduced with many other weapon skills in NetHack 3.2.0.
Variants
In some NetHack variants that integrate the Convict Patch, a wielded heavy iron ball functions as a melee weapon that uses the flail skill and may even train it when swung in melee.
dNetHack
dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack include the Convict role and give the heavy iron ball (here known as just a "ball") and the iron chain the flail skill. They also make the nunchaku into a separate weapon from the standard flail, and add the beast cutter as a flail weapon.
These variants add some artifacts that use the flail skill:
- Helping Hand (lawful grappling hook)
- Quicksilver (unaligned silver flail)
- The Tentacle Rod (drow-favoring intelligent flail)
- The Three-Headed Flail (chaotic, large and intelligent flail)
- The Sting of the Poison Queen (chaotic, large and intelligent flail)
- The Iron Ball of Levitation (chaotic, Convict-favoring ball)
SpliceHack
SpliceHack adds the triple flail as a weapon that uses the flail skill.
EvilHack
EvilHack includes the Convict role and gives heavy iron balls the flail skill. EvilHack also adds the triple-headed flail, a two-handed weapon which serves as the base item for the artifact flail Butcher: Butcher is Yeenoghu's trademark flail, and he will always generate with it.
