A gold-bladed vibrospear is a type of charged piercing and slashing vibroweapon and polearm that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a large-sized weapon that is two-handed for a medium-sized wielder, has a base material of gold and is considered to be a futuristic item. It appears as a long black and gold spear when unidentified.

Generation

Anachrononauts start the game with knowledge of the gold-bladed vibrospear's identified appearance.

Gold-bladed vibrospears are not randomly generated and cannot be wished for by a hero that isn't a Tourist, though they may still be found in bones.

For Androids, one gold-bladed vibrospear with a non-negative enchantment is scattered to a randomly chosen dungeon level between dungeon level 2 and the castle. Unlike normal item generation, a scattered item may be placed in a corridor, vault, closet and other places confined that are usually restricted from having items generate there.

Description

Gold-bladed vibrospears inflict piercing damage and have a +2 to-hit bonus. When uncharged, they deal 1d6 damage against small monsters and 1d8 against large monsters. If the gold-bladed vibrospear is charged, it instead deals 2d6+3 against small monsters and 2d8+4 against large monsters. A gold-bladed vibrospear of larger or smaller size has its base damage dice similarly modified, always gaining an additional damage dice, and half a dice as bonus damage when charged. A hero wielding a gold-bladed vibrospear while they are at Skilled or better in lance gains the "stop thrust", "braced", "lunge", and "focus fire" expert traits. Swinging a gold-bladed vibrospear costs only 56 of the normal movement points to attack, costing 10 movement points as opposed to the 12 most weapons do.

Gold-bladed vibrospears will always be generated with the unholy object property. This object property will only come into effect if the weapon is cursed, however. Additionally, if the gold-bladed vibrospear is wielded while the hero below a 13 of their maximum hp, it gains a +20% base damage bonus.

A gold-bladed vibrospear is normally generated with 80 to 99 charges unless otherwise specified, and can be recharged any number of times. Recharging a gold-bladed vibrospear has different effects based on the beautitude of the charging source: blessed charging sets charges to 100, cursed charging sets charges to 10 and uncursed charging sets the charges to a number between 80 and 99.

A gold-bladed vibrospear that has its base material changed to something other than gold is transformed into a gold-bladed vibrospear. Conversely, if a gold-bladed vibrospear is dipped into a potion of midas or is otherwise made into gold, it will be transformed into a gold-bladed vibrospear. The gold-bladed vibrospear can't have its base material changed without also having its item type changed, unlike the gold-bladed vibrospear.

In terms of monster weapon preference, monsters will prefer the gold-bladed vibrospear to a white vibrospear, and will prefer a white vibrosword or better to the gold-bladed vibrospear.
