A high-elven warsword is a type of weapon that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a huge melee weapon, making it two-handed for a medium-sized wielder, and uses the scimitar skill. It has a base material of mithril, and appears as a "runed curved sword" with its material appended when unidentified.

Generation

Elven Kensei start each game with a blessed +1 high-elven warsword.

High-elven warswords are very rare, and make up 11000 (0.1%) of all weapons randomly generated on the ground, in general shops or as death drops. Used armor dealerships and antique weapon outlets can also stock high-elven warswords, and the sand-walker's shops run by selkies in Elshava can stock silver high-elven warswords.

In the Mordor variant of the Chaos Quest, one of the chests in the room directly west of the ogre emperor's throne contains a large high-elven warsword that has the damp object property. The same room will also have a wrathful silver high-elven warsword placed randomly within it during level creation.

A sack in the eastern-most isolated room on the upper filler levels of the Drow Healer quest will contain a consecrated flaming +1 silver high-elven warsword.

High-elven warswords can be generated in the magic item vaults within the Avatar of Lolth's lair during level creation if the lair appears as the second Abyss level.

Several monsters can be generated with high-elven warswords:

  • Grove guardians have a 16 chance of being generated with a high-elven warsword.
  • Anulo dancers have a 14 chance of being generated with a high-elven warsword.
  • Celeborn is always generated with a blessed +7 wrathful high-elven warsword.
  • Desert seers have an effective 16 chance of being generated with a metal high-elven warsword.
  • Star-elves have a 13 chance of being generated with a weapon set that includes a high-elven warsword, and the weapon has a 910 chance of being golden and will otherwise be metal.
  • Star-Emperors and Star-Empresses have a 13 chance of being generated with a golden wrathful high-elven warsword that is given a special property shared by other "elf lord weapons".
  • Mithril smiths are always generated with mithril high-elven warswords.
  • Orcs of the ages of stars are always generated with high-elven warswords that have a small 1100 chance of being mercurial.
  • Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs created anywhere other than the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) are generated with a blessed +9 wrathful high-elven warsword that has a small 1100 chance of being mercurial.
  • Player monsters generated on the Astral Plane have a 120 chance of their melee weapon being a high-elven warsword.

Description

A high-elven warsword inflicts slashing damage, dealing 1d10 + 1d6 damage against all monsters. A high-elven warsword can be poisoned by dipping it in an appropriate potion. A hero that wields a high-elven warsword while they are Skilled or higher in scimitars gains the "hew", "fell", "cleave", "long slash", "bladesong", and "blade dance" expert traits.

In terms of monster weapon preference, monsters will favor a high-elven warsword over a church blade, and will prefer a great mace or better to the high-elven warsword.
