Maanzecorian

Maanzecorian, ., is a unique monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. Maanzecorian is a mind flayer ghost that is an undead, primordial and demihuman minion with a humanoid shape, and he is an overlord to his kind. Maanzecorian is strong, unsolid, unbreathing and amphibious, capable of flight, capable of phasing, and will seek out items to pick up.

Maanzecorian can see via telepathy, darksight and R'lyehian vision, can see invisible, and can be seen via infravision. Seeing Maanzecorian can lower the hero's sanity and increase their insight, though in practice only Anachrononauts will encounter him at all. Maanzecorian cannot be made tame, and will turn traitor if somehow tamed.

Maanzecorian has a powerful weapon attack, a touch attack that deals physical damage, and the ability to cast one mage spell and one clerical spell during each of his turns with no cooldown. He has expert prowess in martial combat, and can also emit highly-damaging mind blasts at a hero or monster that senses him, with a roughly 12 chance of dealing 5d15 damage if the target is intrinsically telepathic and a 110 chance otherwise. Maanzecorian possesses sleep resistance, poison resistance, stoning resistance and death resistance.

Maanzecorian can be warded by a fully-reinforced Elder Sign as well as a fourfold-or-better Elder Elemental Eye, and cannot be warded by the Circle of Acheron or the Gorgoneion.

Generation

Maanzecorian is always generated hostile, and is not a valid polymorph form or genocide target.

In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, Maanzecorian plays a major role in the end game of the Anachrononaut. This constitutes major spoilers for the Anachrononaut role—they can be accessed by selecting the "Role spoiler" tab.

Maanzecorian is only generated on the Astral Plane for Anachrononauts, where he will appear if the temple containing the lawful high altar is deserted when the hero enters: this generally requires the hero to have previously killed Lugribossk, who will appear as the priest tending Ilsensine's temple, though it can also occur if Lugribossk is removed from the temple non-lethally (e.g. by a wand of teleportation).

Maanzecorian will always be set to level 27 and generated with 128-135 HP. His generation will cause darkness to fall upon the areas immediately surrounding him and the hero, along with rendering the hero immobile for 4 turns (similar to normal ghosts generated in desecrated temples).

Maanzecorian never leaves a corpse upon death.
