Generation
All Tourists start the game with an uncursed pair of sunglasses.
Pairs of sunglasses are not randomly generated, though they can be wished for or found in bones.
Description
A hero can use a pair of sunglasses by applying them, and can also put on or remove sunglasses manually using those commands. Sunglasses are worn on the face, and cannot be worn at the same time as other facewear, e.g. a blindfold, a towel or a pair of lenses.
Sunglasses are fragile and will break if they are thrown or dropped from a great enough height (e.g. while levitating), and a force bolt spell or a zapped wand of striking will destroy any sunglasses in the path of the beam.
While worn, a pair of sunglasses has a few effects:
- Worn sunglasses provide blindness resistance.
- They decrease the hero's chances of successfully reading a spellbook by 10%, the opposite of a worn pair of lenses.
- Similarly, they lower the hero's luck-based odds of finding secret doors and secret corridors when searching, if the hero is not blind.
Strategy
Worn sunglasses can be used to block the blinding effects of yellow light explosions and can disguise marks from the hero binding spirits such as Acererak that specifically affect only their eyes rather than their entire face.
