A prayer-warded wrapping is a type of cloak that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a special type of mummy wrapping, and has a default material of cloth unless otherwise specified during generation.

Generation

Prayer-warded wrappings are not randomly generated normally, though they can be wished for or found in bones.

Neferet the Green is always generated with a blessed +5 golden prayer-warded wrapping. Pharaohs and priest mummies are always generated with prayer-warded wrappings.

Description

While worn, a prayer-warded wrapping covers the entire body and suppresses invisibility similar to a normal mummy wrapping, and it grants 0 base AC, 0 base DR, MC1, and curse resistance. Wearing or taking off a prayer-warded wrapping takes 1 turn. The wrapping's curse resistance grants the wearer complete protection from the following effects:

A hero attempting to wear a prayer-warded wrapping while having the spirit Shiro bound will be interrupted and unbind Shiro, destroying the wrapping in the process unless it is an artifact.

A hero or monster being polymorphed into a larger form while wearing a prayer-warded wrapping will destroy it as with a normal mummy wrapping, rather than eroding it and forcing it off their body like other cloak items.

Monsters will put on a prayer-warded wrapping, and in order of scores for monster usage priority, the monsters that will favor a prayer-warded wrapping most are: mummies; monsters that are not weldproof and hate unholy creatures; and non-weldproof monsters that are not unholy-haters, which are tied with tame pets that are invisible and allied with a hero that cannot see invisible. Monsters that are invisible and not tame will try to avoid seeking out a prayer warded wrapping.
