生成
铃在随机生成工具中占比1⁄500（0.2%）。
精灵族的牧师和巫师在游戏开始时有1⁄6的概率获得一只铃[1]。
碑文为“Saved by the bell!”的墓碑上必定会生成一只铃[2][3][4]。
描述
使用非诅咒的铃时，它会发出噪声，唤醒附近处于睡眠状态的怪物，并呼唤使用者的宠物。被诅咒的铃的效果与非诅咒的铃基本相同，但还会有1⁄4的概率召唤出一名仙女。铃召唤的仙女不会携带任何物品，且如果当前游戏中仙女已经绝种或灭绝，则召唤失败[5]。每次召唤出仙女后，铃有7⁄100的概率会损毁，如果铃没有损毁，则有1⁄3的概率使生成的仙女获得快速特质，以及1⁄3的概率使玩家陷入2回合的麻痹状态[6][7]。
贪婪怪物在发动窃取护身符攻击窃取玩家的开启之铃时，有可能错误地窃取玩家携带的普通铃[9]。
策略

铃最初于NetHack 3.1.0加入游戏。
在NetHack 3.1.3及更早的版本中，铃召唤的仙女会携带物品，且当时没有怪物绝种机制，因此玩家可以利用被诅咒的铃无限制地刷取仙女的常见携带物[10][11]。自NetHack 3.2.0起，铃召唤的仙女不再携带起始物品，使得这一技巧不再可用。

dNetHack
In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the female half-dragon Noble always starts with a blessed bell.
Kukeri are always generated with a bell made of the default material.
Andromalius is a spirit whose binding ritual can use a bell as one of the two items placed in his seal, and using two non-bell items in the binding ritual may generate a bell as the third item the hero receives if they successfully bind him.
Heroes can wield bells as a form of spellcasting focus that improves the success rate of clerical spells and healing spells, and Priests wielding a bell improve the success rate of all spells they cast.
SpliceHack
In SpliceHack, attempting to use a scroll of cloning on the Bell of Opening will always produce a normal bell. This also applies to Hack'EM.
