Dragon (dNetHack)
In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the dragon monster class is heavily changed from NetHack.
All the named variants include the standard dragons from NetHack, the shimmering and deep dragons from SLASH'EM, and add other new monsters to the monster class. They also include a dragon monster attribute that is used for all draconic monsters both within the monster class and outside it.
List of monsters
The following monsters are part of the dragon monster class in dNetHack, with monsters new to the variant highlighted in bold:
- Baby dragons
- Adult dragons
- Pseudodragons
- Dinosaurs
- Other dragons
- Unique monsters
notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack retain the above monsters and add two more unique dragons:
Common traits
All dragons have their stats and other qualities changed compared to NetHack and SLASH'EM, including the shimmering dragon and the deep dragon:
- Baby dragons are not randomly generated at all.
- Adult dragons have stronger bite and claw attacks, their breath weapons are generally stronger and ignore reflection unless it is granted by dragon armor or an artifact that grants dragonbreath reflection, and they have an additional tail-lashing attack that occurs every global turn and targets an adjacent opponent at random. Their AC is improved similarly to SLASH'EM, and they also possess natural damage reduction.
Dragons have catsight and can track monsters via scent.
Generation
Randomly-generated dragons are normally created hostile, and are generated with an amount of HP equal to 10*ML + (ML)d10 (in practice corresponding to roughly 3⁄4 of a normal gigantic monster's HP).
