A hedrow master-wizard:
| |
A hedrow master-wizard, @, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The hedrow master-wizard is a type of male humanoid drow that is a stronger form of the hedrow wizard, and is an overlord to drowkind: though he loses the strong attribute, he gains the ability to see invisible and track opponents in addition to the drow's standard darksight, and can reach level 30. Hedrow master-wizards are treated as 'wizard' monsters, similar to other monsters such as player monster wizards. A hedrow master-wizard may turn traitor while tame.
Hedrow master-wizards have a weapon attack and the ability to cast one mage monster spell during each of their turns. Hedrow master-wizards have basic prowess in martial combat and a base attack bonus of +0.5 to-hit per level, and possess sleep resistance along with a weakness to iron. They gain teleport control upon reaching level 17.
Eating a hedrow master-wizard corpse or tin, or quaffing his blood, grants temporary sleep resistance for a duration of 5,250 turns before physical size modifiers.
Generation
Hedrow master-wizards are not randomly generated normally, and normally-created ones are generally peaceful. They are not a valid polymorph form or genocide target. A hedrow wizard can grow up into a hedrow master-wizard.
Three hedrow master-wizards are generated in the innermost eastern chamber of the Hedrow shared quest home level during level creation.
Two hedrow master-wizards are placed in the Drow Healer quest during level creation: a skeletal hedrow master-wizard occupies the expensive bed in the north room of the westernmost structure on the ceiling district's second floor, and a hedrow master-wizard plague victim occupies the expensive bed in the southeastern one-square room that is a short distance from the up stair of the floor district.
Hedrow master-wizards can be generated among the plague victims that are carried within sacks by hill giants on the Drow Healer quest.
A hedrow master-wizard is always generated with erosion-proofed +3 droven chain mail that bears the symbol of their house, a droven cloak, a pair of high boots, a droven dagger, a buckler, and a droven short sword.
