A set of crow talons is a type of weapon that appears in dNetHack, notnotdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack. The set of crow talons is a small weapon that is one-handed for a medium-sized wielder, and uses the dagger skill. It has a base material of metal, and appears as a set of three feather-etched daggers when unidentified.
A mercurial set of crow talons can be named The Sky Reflected and merged into The Amalgamated Skies while retaining its special study effects.
Generation
All Monks start the game with knowledge of the set of crow talons' identified appearance.
Sets of crow talons are not randomly generated, although they may be wished for or found in bones.
The artifacts Fire Brand and Frost Brand can only be wished for or gifted in crow talon form for a half-dragon Noble, and only half-dragon Nobles can reshape the Brands into sets of crow talons by dipping the chosen artifact into a forge or fountain respectively—this reshaping requires the hero to either have a set of crow talons in their inventory or be at least Skilled in daggers.
Corvian knights may be generated with various sets of weapons, some of which include sets of crow talons:
- 2 sets of crow talons with a 1⁄8 chance.
- A crow quill and a set of crow talons with a 1⁄8 chance.
- A freezing metal rapier and a set of crow talons.
Dao lao gui monks have an effective 1⁄7 chance of being generated with a set of crow talons, which have a 1⁄4 chance of being generated with an enchantment ranging from +0 to +4 and a separate 1⁄50 of being given one of the anarchic, holy or unholy object properties (with an equal probability of each).
Description
A set of crow talons is a multistriking weapon that performs 3 separate attacks at once when used in melee, applying any effects from object properties and poisons individually for each hit. These attacks also inflict 3 stacks of study on the target per hit, up to a total of 9 study for all 3 hits. A hero that wields a set of crow talons while at Skilled or better in daggers gains the "second" and "bleed" expert traits.
A set of crow talons wielded as the hero's main weapon gains a full damage bonus of (DEX - 10)2 (rounded down) from the hero's dexterity, rounding up to +8 at 25 dexterity, but only gains a halved bonus from strength up to +4 at 25 strength. A wielded rapier also increases the hero's AC by the lower value between their saber skill (with 1 point per level) and (DEX - 13)4, up to a maximum of 3 AC. Both of these traits are shared with the rapier, the rakuyo, the rakuyo-saber, the soldier's rapier, and the crow quill.
A set of crow talons counts as a "monk weapon" and give Monks a full base attack bonus of +1 to-hit per experience level when they hit, and they can be used to perform mystic moves even while wielding them.
Origin
The set of crow talons is a claw weapon that appears in the Ashes of Ariandel DLC for the 2016 game Dark Souls III. Its description states: "Talons used by Corvian Knights. Inflicts five perpendicular slashes, causing heavy bleeding. In their infatuation with Sister Friede, the Corvian Knights swore to protect the painting from fire and to this end, too to the execution of their own brethren."
