Orcish chain mail is a type of body armor that appears in NetHack. It is made of iron, and appears as crude chain mail when unidentified.

Generation
Mordor orcs have a 1⁄3 chance of being generated with orcish chain mail;[1] orc-captains have a 1⁄2 chance of being generated with Mordor orc armor, giving them an effective 1⁄6 chance of generating with orcish chain mail.[2]
Any orcish player in a role that starts with chain mail receives orcish chain mail instead - there are no roles that begin the game with chain mail, and thus none that make use of this substitution.[3]
Description
When worn, orcish chain mail provides 4 base AC and MC1.
Strategy
As with most orcish items, orcish chain mail is less effective than standard chain mail, and scale mail gives the same AC for less weight. Orcish chain mail can still suffice as armor for roles that do not regularly cast, at least until lighter armor such as a mithril-coat can be found.
History
Orcish chain mail first appears in NetHack 3.0.0.
Variants
Some variants may give orcs (including the player) an AC bonus for wearing orcish chain mail.
SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, you can upgrade orcish chain mail into regular chain mail, and upgrading chain mail will produce orcish chain mail.
UnNetHack
In UnNetHack, player orcs wearing orcish chain mail gain a +1 AC bonus, making it as effective as chain mail worn by other races.
dNethack
In dNetHack, orcish chain mail grants 2 AC, 2 DR and MC1 when worn, and weighs 150 aum, which is half of its weight in vanilla NetHack.
EvilHack
In EvilHack, orcish chain mail grants +1 bonus AC to orcish monsters that wear them, making it as effective for them as chain mail.
Orcish chain mail can be created at a forge by combining ring mail and an orcish shield.
