A priest of Ghaunadaur, b, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack and notdNetHack. It is a form of male shoggoth that serves Ghaunadaur, a god of fallen stars, slime, outcasts, and the discarded, as indicated by the encyclopedia entry. His counterpart is the priestess of Ghaunadaur, which is a form of drider.

A priest of Ghaundaur has the same attacks as a shoggoth - two touch attacks, a fairly-unique suction attack with a variety of effects, and a passive acidic splash - and also has the ability to cast clerical monster spells. Priests of Ghaundaur also possess fire resistance, cold resistance, poison resistance, shock resistance, acid resistance, and stoning resistance. A tame priest of Ghaundaur may turn traitor.

Like a shoggoth corpse, a priest of Ghaundaur's corpse is acidic to eat, but eating the corpse or tin of one has a 13 chance each of conveying cold resistance, poison resistance or shock resistance, and also cures stoning.

Origin

The shoggoth is a creature that originates from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, where they appear as massive and occasionally intelligent amoeboid creatures made out of iridescent black slime, with multiple eyes floating on the surface. An average shoggoth measures 4.5 meters (15 feet) across while spherical, though they can become much larger.

Encyclopedia entry

Ghaunadaur, god of fallen stars, slime, outcasts, and the discarded, is best known as a peripheral member of the drow pantheon. However, he is also an ancient, pre-humanoid entity, thought to have emerged from the primordial ooze, or even to have born that ancient life with him to this world from some forgotten home. Most slimes and oozes are mindless and unable to worship Ghaunadaur, but the deity is known and revered by shoggoths, from which its most powerful priests are drawn.
