Eve
Eve, the First Sinner is a spirit that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack.
Ritual, seal and taboo
Eve's seal must be drawn next to a tree, which the binder must face during the ritual.
To remain bound to Eve, the hero must not eat apples, oranges, pears, melons, bananas, brainroots, or carrots.
Mark
A hero that has Eve bound bears bloody wounds on their feet and stomach that can be seen from a distance. They can be hidden by wearing boots and either a cloak or suit.
Benefits
While Eve is bound, the hero gains the half physical damage property along with skill in farm implements and bows. They also gain a base attack bonus of +1 to-hit per experience level when shooting weapons and projectiles, as with Rangers.
Eve's active powers are as follows:
- Barrage: The hero can use this to fire a large number of projectiles, equal to their peak possible multishot plus XL10 rounded down (e.g. 1 at XL 10-19, 2 at XL 20-29, and 3 at XL 30).
- Thorns and Stones: The hero can use this to create ammunition that is appropriate for their currently wielded launcher or ranged weapon, taking HP damage equal to the size of their spirit dice. The amount of items created is 1d5 plus 1 spirit die, e.g. 1d5 + 1d5 (or 2-10) for a hero at experience level 14 (who will take 5 HP of damage). The projectiles will be flint stones, arrows or crossbow bolts with roughly equal probability if the hero is not wielding a valid launcher.
Her passive powers are as follows:
- Harvester: The hero's attacks deal double damage against plant-class monsters.
- Hunter-gatherer: Monsters are more likely to leave corpses upon death (done by rolling twice for the chance to leave one), while trees that the hero kicks give 50% more fruit—this is reduced to 20% if Eve is bound via the Pen of the Void.

In notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, Eve, @, also appears as a monster that can be summoned by an Illithanachronounbinder. Eve is a strong human monster that can be seen via infravision, and will pick up items that she comes across. Like many human-class monsters and summoned spirits, Eve cannot be made tame.
Eve has two weapon attacks and another attack that summons up to 4 iron arrows to fly at a target.
Generation
Eve is first generated when summoned from her seal by an Illithanachronounbinder. She is always created hostile, and are not a valid polymorph form or genocide target.
Eve is always generated with a bow and a stack of arrows as ammo, an apple, and a Leo Nemaeus hide.
Eve does not leave a corpse upon death.
Strategy
Below this point, there are major spoilers for the Illithanachronounbinder role. They can be accessed by selecting the "Role spoiler" tab.
If Eve is killed after being summoned, she can be encountered again in the Void, a branch accessed by opening the high altar of Ilsensine the Fallen as an Illithanachronounbinder using the invoke effect of The Elder Cerebral Fluid. Eve is generated along with many other spirits of the near void on the second floor of the branch, and is generated with the "whispers" template, which makes her nonliving.
