Common traits
The monsters in the gremlin monster class share very few traits that are common between all three: they are chaotic humanoids that are intelligent and inediate, and attack using claws and bites.
History
The gremlin first appears in NetHack 2.3e, where it shares the G glyph with the gnome. The gremlin monster class is established in NetHack 3.0.0, and the gremlin is moved to its own glyph at g. The gargoyle and winged gargoyle are added to the monster class in NetHack 3.2.0.
