Splint mail is a type of body armor that appears in NetHack. It is made of iron.

Generation
All Samurai start the game with +0 non-cursed splint mail[1] - their starting splint mail will be rustproof, along with any splint mail generated on the same floor due to the method employed in the code, and all splint mail generated on the Samurai quest will also be rustproof.[2]
In addition to random generation, general stores and armor shops can stock splint mail.
Mercenaries with a target AC of 2 or better (e.g., Yendorian Army sergeants) that do not receive plate mail or crystal plate mail have an effective 8⁄15 chance of generating with splint mail.[3]
Player monster barbarians, knights, priests, and valkyries have an effective 1⁄10 chance of forcing splint mail in place of their initial body armor.[4][5][6][7]

Samurai will be able to wear their starting splint mail for some time with their high strength and constitution, but should look for upgrades such as banded mail, or an elven or dwarvish mithril-coat, as soon as possible.

SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, gnoll warriors that do not generate with orange dragon scale mail have a 1⁄3 chance of generating with splint mail.[8]
dNetHack
In dNetHack, splint mail confers 3 AC, 3 DR and MC1 while worn, and its weight is reduced to 200 aum.
Incantifier Samurai have their starting splint mail replaced with a robe.
Lord Sato always generates with blessed +4 splint mail.
EvilHack
In EvilHack, the weight of splint mail is reduced to 300 aum.
Giant Samurai start the game with large splint mail in place of the standard splint, and tortle Samurai receive their race's standard toque in lieu of splint mail.
Lord Sato always generates with +4 splint mail.
Splint mail can be created at a forge by combining chain mail and scale mail. Splint mail can also be combined with chain mail to forget plate mail.

SlashTHEM
