An atlatl is a type of launcher designed to throw spears that appears in dNetHack, notnotdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack. It is a medium-sized weapon that has a base-material of wood. It appears as a notched stick when unidentified.
The Xiuhcoatl is an artifact bullwhip, that can be re-shaped into an atlatl. For Cave Dwellers and Archeologists, the artifacts Fire brand and Frost brand may be reshaped into a odachi by dipping them into a forges and fountains, respectively.
Generation
Atlatls do not randomly generate, but may be wished for.
Second-sun spearthrowers are generated with an atlatl and 1–10 javelins.
Oona's smithing services includes atlatl, which may be given the crystalline, forge-hot or arcing object properties, chosen through the menu.
Dracae eladrin's smithing services include broadswords, which may receive the acrid, sizzling, holy or consecrated object properties, chosen through the menu.
Atlatls have a base 1⁄28 chance of being generated inside Jrt Netjer hell vaults.
Description
Atlatl are used to propel weapons that use the spear skill by quivering them and either throwing or firing them and training the spear skill on a hit. Spears launched with an atlatl gain triple strength bonus. Atlatls are ineffective in melee and will only bash monsters.
The following types of weapons can be launched by an atlatl:

- Dwarvish spears
- Orcish spears

- Atgeirs
- Javelins
- Silverknight spears
- Saw spears

A pest glaive that absorbs an atlatl has a 1⁄20 chance to inherit its ability to throw spears.
