A pest glaive is a type of polearm that appears in dNetHack, notnotdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack. It is a huge slashing and piercing weapon that has a base-material of shell. It appears as a strangly-organic polearm when unidentified.

Generation

Pest glaives do not randomly generate but may be wished for.

All Silverfish start the game with only a pest glaive.

Archeologist silverfish's pest glaives will have already absorbed the attributes of a bullwhip and dwarvish mattock.

Binder silverfish's pest glaives will have already absorbed the attributes of a shepherd's crook.

Silverfish gain the ability to create uncursed +0 pest glaives at experience level 14, through the #abilities extended command.

Silverman are generated with a pest glaive.

Description

The pest glaive does not gain any expert traits natively, but may absorb those from other weapons.

Silverfish who wield a pest glaive receive a 20% carry-cap bonus.

Pest glaives can be fed spellbooks, corpses, and weapons, with a flat 120 chance of inheriting a relevant caracteristic from them. A pest glaive can only eat weapons made of organic materials, iron, green-steel or another erodable material. Weapons made of non-organic material must either be eroded to be consumed by the pest glaive, or require standing on top of a fountain, pool or square of shallow water. Weapons made of other materials may still be eaten, so long as they have at least one point of erosion. Erode-proof weapons cannot be eaten.

Some weapon types will also pass on special abilites to the glaive, granted by specific weapons with a 120 chance:

A pest glaive that had been poisoned and loses its coating through use will receive a secreting object property for that poison with a 120 chance:

  • Poison, Filth poison, Sleep poison, Blindness poison, Acid poison, Silver poison, Hallucination poison, Dire poison. All secreting object properties have a 140 chance of coating the glaive in their respective poison every turn.

Messages

You employ the secret arts of your kind, creating an uncanny shell glaive.
The glaive cannot eat unblemished metal.
