The Banes
First gifts
Several ideas for varied first gifts, randomizing the artifact the player gets for his or her sacrifices.
Archeologist
Mattock of Earthquakes
- lawful dwarf archeologist favouring dwarvish mattock
- deals double damage to cross-aligned
- invoke for an earthquake
I really like the Itlachiayaque patch, as it gives archeologists a thematically appropriate quest artifact. However, why not to reuse their (reworked) vanilla artifact as a first gift? The powers are changed mostly because I don't feel they actually work with the detection flavour.

Trowel of Pillaging
- neutral gnome archeologist favouring silvered gnomish shovel
- carried causes all monsters to drop some gold or gems as an additional death drop (the chance is based on luck)

Monk
Hempen Rope of Asceticism
- lawful monk-favouring rope
- grants double its enchantment to AC
- worn prevents loosing consciousness while fainting
- invoke to toggle slow digestion
Robe of Stars
- neutral monk-favouring robe
- worn grants light radius as a lamp
- acts as a luckstone
- invoke to create several silver stars
Snakeskin
- chaotic monk-favouring robe
- grants double the normal robe effects
- worn grants poison resistance, hallucination resistance and half physical damage
Noble
Silver Spoon of Feasting
- unaligned noble-favouring silvered spoon
- deals double damage
- returns to quiver when thrown
- carried grants increased hunger while satiated and decreased hunger while hungry or worse (same as convicts)
- wielded or quivered grants unbreathing
Tourist
Luggage
- neutral tourist-favouring chest
- can be #looted as any normal chest
- always generated with a tin whistle inside
- using any whistle on the same floor as is the Luggage will teleport it under the player’s feet
- applied acts as a bag of tricks, but requires no charges
Wizard
Staff of the Magi
- unaligned wizard-favouring quarterstaff
- grants +1d5 to hit and deals double damage
- wielded grants double ray and beam damage
Mantle of Spell Resistance
- unaligned wizard-favouring cloak of magic resistance
- worn grants half spell damage
Crowning gifts
A nice change would be to grant all roles a specific crowning artifact, so here are several ideas for such.
Barbarian
Claymore
- neutral barbarian-favouring silvered two-handed sword
- grants +1d5 to hit and deals double damage to humanoids
- wielded grants automatic searching and improves searching
- can be applied to plant a mine on an adjacent square
Wizard
Elder Wand
- lawful wizard-favouring silvered wand of magic missile
- can be recharged indefinitely
- zapped deals ((XL/2)+1)d6 damage, as the spell
- grants +1d5 to hit and +1d10 to damage, plus casts melee magic missile (similar to the attack of angels) without using up charges
- wielded grants reflection
- can be multizapped (similar to multishot of ranged weapons)
- uses Stakes or Attack spells skill, whichever is higher
- invoke for long-lasting protection
Wizzard's Hat
- neutral wizard-favouring dunce cap
- carried grants magic resistance
- worn grants double normal robe effects and amnesia resistance
- invoke to restore energy
- read to learn Teleport away spell
Sceptre of the Witch-King
- chaotic wizard-favouring wand of draining
- can be recharged indefinitely
- grants +1d5 to hit and +1d10 to damage, plus can drain life of struck monsters
- draining life has 50% chance to heal the player and 50% chance to add one charge to the wand
- wielded grants drain resistance, death resistance (if magic resistance is split into several different resistances) and half spell damage

Quest rewards
Several possible alternatives for quest artifacts, mostly to make different alignments and races more unique.
Wizard
Eye of Cthulhu
- chaotic wizard-favouring amulet of flying
- carried grants blood magic (when out of Pw, you can pay the cost from HP at 1:1 basis) and hungerless regeneration
- worn grants flying and MC 3
- invoke to toggle phasing
